Opera UK Statement of Support for Ukraine

Opera UK would like to offer our unequivocal support to the people of Ukraine during its invasion by Russian forces.

We recognise that the international opera community is shocked and disturbed by the unfolding crisis, and that the effects are being experienced right across our deeply interconnected sector.

We share Arts Council England's call for the protection of both the rich cultural heritage of Ukraine and the work of the nation’s remarkable artists and creative practitioners.

We know that many of our members are already taking action to support the nation, whether that be through, fundraising, performance of its music, moral solidarity, or assisting our international colleagues to vacate conflict zones.

Using what tools we have available to us, most of us will be utilising the power of our art to highlight the abhorrent wrongs that are taking place and to encourage positive and meaningful action.

As your membership organisation for opera, we are here to amplify the actions of our membership to address these urgent humanitarian needs. It is a time for our community to convene to demonstrate support and also provide it in whatever ways we can.
